About Clinton Mississippi
Clinton was founded in 1823 under the name Mount Salus, meaning mountain of health. Two years after its founding, the name changed to Clinton after a former New York governor. The town boasts many records and historical sites. Mississippi College is the oldest college in the state as well as the second oldest Baptist University in the world and the first to grant degrees to women. During World War II, Clinton housed 35 out of 40 German generals captured and ran a POW camp. Clinton is also the smallest city to ever host a Fortune 500 company. Today, it is the 10th largest city in Mississippi with a population of around 25,000.
