About Flowood Mississippi
Flowood had a late start in 1951 when a handful of people gathered in the middle of a flood plain on the banks of the Pearl River. These people wanted to start their own town. Two years later, they were granted a charter to incorporate Flowood. The settlers struggled with the land, attempting to build a city in an area known for disastrous floods. After a huge flood practically wiped out the town in 1979, townspeople decided that a stronger town should be built. They began again, and by 1988, had implemented new zoning ordinances. Throughout the 80s Flowood annexed land and continued to grow, and the police and fire departments were top rated. Flowood officially became a city in 1990 and continues to grow. In 2009, it was voted a resort town and is no longer dry.
