About Raymond Mississippi
Raymond was chosen as one of the two county seats for Hinds County by Andrew Jackson when it was discovered the center of the county was low and prone to flooding. Its proximity to Natchez Trace made it a prosperous town. In the 1840s, a resort was made near a well that provided sulphured water because of its presumed health benefits. A new courthouse was constructed in 1859 and is still standing today. This building is considered to be Greek Revival Architecture. During the Civil War St. Mark’s Episcopal Church was used as a hospital, and blood still stains its floors. Today, Raymond is rich in culture with about 2,000 residents.
