4 Hints for Eliminating Indoor Odors

Indoor Air Quality Jackson MSEvery once in awhile, your home may develop some annoying, lingering, and foul indoor odors. These smells can ruin meals, prevent sleep, and worst of all, you may get used to them! To check for any foul smells in your house, try leaving the house for a few hours. Find a place where you can spend that time without being in your car and this may give you a “reset,” allowing you to pick up on those indoor odors when you return home. So, without further adieu, here are five great tips for getting rid of those pesky indoor aromas.

1. Baked Bass, Cooked Cod, and Seared Salmon

Fried fish can make your kitchen smell like the docks but this remedy definitely helps. First, boil two cups of water and add three tablespoons of baking soda along with a lemon peel. Next time while cooking, burn an all-natural soy candle, this will absorb those odors as they are released.

2. Stinky Trash Cans

Rotting food and other garbage combinations can be absorbed by plastic trash cans, giving your trash a permanent smell. Place one tablespoon of coffee, cloves, and a tablespoon of baking soda in a paper coffee filter. Tie the top to create a little pod. This little sachet can eliminate these indoor odors easily and without fail.

3. Mystery Refrigerator Smells

Usually these odors are confined to spoiled food, dairy, and leaky meats. A box of baking soda left open in your fridge is a great start. However, a good cleaning of your fridge with hydrogen peroxide will get rid of any stuck or spilled fridge goop.

4. Musty Smells in Rooms

The musty indoor odor can be attributed to mildew in humid areas. First, run a dehumidifier to get rid of the moisture in your air. There are many types of these on the market. Next, mix a few drops of tea-tree oil with rubbing alcohol and spray it in the most concentrated area of the odor. This will neutralize those musty spots.
