How Long Will a Commercial AC Unit Last in Comparison to Regular Units?

A properly maintained commercial AC unit will typically survive 15-20 years, on par with the lifespan of a gas unit, while a regular residential unit usually lasts 12-15 years. With regular maintenance from an HVAC professional, however, regular unit can last as long as a commercial one. Keeping your unit alive as long as possible isn’t necessarily the most cost-effective or energy-efficient option, however. If your air conditioner breaks down a lot, investing in a new unit can save you a lot of time, money and headaches, even if your current model is only 10 or 15 years old.
