If you ever experience an issue such as an overflowing toilet, it’s obviously important you have this problem addressed as soon as possible. Not only is this type of issue extremely unpleasant to have to deal with, it could possibly even present a health hazard. If this ever happens to you, whether it’s 5:00 in the evening or 5:00 in the morning, here’s what to do after you call us for emergency plumbing repair:

  • Find your water shut-off valve, which will probably be near the base of the toilet or possibly under your sink. If your toilet does not have such a valve, remove the cover from the tank and situate the float to stay in the “off” position to stop the flow of water.
  • Remove the water and any possible waste from your bathroom floor as quickly as you can. If you have a larger spill, use a Shop Vac to remove water from the floor and from carpeting. Thoroughly wash and disinfect all surfaces that have come in contact with toilet water.
  • If the overflow is caused by a clog, try to clear the drain with a toilet plunger. However, don’t use too much force or you could risk damage to your pipes.

Another common issue that calls for emergency plumbing repair is when a pipe bursts due to extremely cold weather. It’s extremely important you know where your main water shut-off is located so you can minimize potential damage to your home. If you don’t know where it is located, please contact us and we’ll help you find it.
